Connection could not be establish - portable
#1
We are unable to connect to our asg-remote desktop 2017 from outside the windows server hosting the application. We keep getting the following error:

connection could not be established. A connection to your current environment could not be established. Please select another one.

We are able to RDP to the Windows Server hosting the ASG application and we are able to connect without getting any errors.

Are there any settings we need to make sure are enabled in the Windows Firewall to allow the connection from the portable version from outside the server itself?

If you use the portable version with active database you need access to this database!

Are you really need the version portable or do you want to work without active connection to your database server - if second then you should use offline mode instead of portable version!

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, we need access to the database. The same user (my account) works just fine from inside the windows server which tells me that access to the application and database is correct.

We have had this setup for more than a year and it just stopped working yesterday.

So perhaps anybody configured some new security policies? You should ask your network admin - I do not know what has changed in your environment...

Or is it not working after any upgrade of ASG-RD?

That is why I am getting in touch with ASG support as I couldn't find any changes.

we have A windows server hosting the application with express SQL. We are used to run the portable app and everything used to work fine.
The server has a scheduled task to sync with specific OUs in Active Directory to have the up to date servers.

I tried yesterday to install the application (instead of using the portable version) in my laptop and connect to the existing environment, but I still get the same error.

To make sure we have access to the database from the network, we used other tools that could remotely connect to the sql database and we were successful on accessing the database remotely.

Do you have any instruction I could follow to try to troubleshoot what is going on? or would it be possible to have an online session with your support to take a look?

If it was working until "yesterday" it must be any change in your environment - we can't take a look at your network configuration.

Try to create a new environment (with full installed version) - use the same database as your existing one (option Access to an existing database) - perhaps you can see more error details there. Did you have a look into Application Event Viewer - perhaps you can find more details there.

OK, let me see if I could try this from another way.

What are the required rules in the Windows Firewall to allow the asg application to work from the network?

I'm not a network specialist - perhaps this article from MS can help you

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/sql...ver-access

But it would be really easier if you try to create a new environment and try to access the current database and/or create a new one - you should get error messages that could help...
