First error is a crash of MMC - do you call MMC over ASGRD? Perhaps try to integrate? This could be causing some crashes - depending on what you open with MMC - we can't guarantee that every plugin will work when integrating into ASGRD

When does ASGRD crashes? Any additional information would be helpful

Hi,

I am getting what appears to be the same as the second issue for the Original Poster. Here is the error from the Application log:

The program ASGRD.exe version 10.0.5564.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.
Process ID: 1b1c
Start Time: 01d34d62da6420ee
Termination Time: 74
Application Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\ASG-Remote Desktop 2017\ASGRD.exe
Report Id: 465cfbcc-bd64-11e7-a19d-e006e6b64447

I can see that there is another thread open for a similar issue, although on that thread there seems to be some association some logging off an RDP session, which I do not see with my issue:

When does the crash normally happen? On startup, on any specific action? We know about an issue (mostly when starting the app) in reading some data result in an error - we try to fix this with the next version...

I have not managed to identify any correlation between the crashes and certain actions.

Some observations:
-The application was previously crashing in a similar way, which we identified to be an issue with .net. Rather than attempting to fix the .net issue, we rebuilt my laptop and reinstalled ASG. I have had 1 crash since rebuilding, but cannot see any errors which now relate to .net
-The application (mostly) crashes after my laptop has been running for some time (more than 1 day)
-From memory, prior to rebuilding my laptop crashes seemed to happen mostly when switching between tabs of RDP sessions
-The crash which happened since my laptop was rebuilt occured after the application had been running for a few hours, and seemed to conincide with opening a remote app outside of ASG Remote Desktop

Some other observations:
-Out of active users having this issue, 2 are using Lenovo T430's, and 2 are using Lenovo X230's - these 2 models of machine use the same drivers.
-All 4 users use a wireless connection to the network

I'm having the same issue different eventlog data on my Wacom Cintiq Companion 2.

The error is directly related to patch 2.

To get it to crash all you have to do is connect to a session. leave it open. minimize and wait. You can leave it open and wait to... you don't even have to be directly using it and it will crash.

The dll "msmpeg2vdec.dll" is a system dll - if you google for that name you find a lot of results and that there might be problems with this dll - but it is has nothing to do with out product - might be any software that has corupted this dll - I don't know which components also installed on your PC and it is very difficult to find out which component causes a dll to fail

This issue is very old. I'm starting to think that ASG bought this app to let it die. I used to use this as my sole rdp managment tool. I think I will be cancelling my sub and searching out other alternatives. It's a pity to, I've been using this app since about 2006 / 2008.

Why should this issue be "very old"? It's not a component the program is really using - it's a corrupted system dll that could be affected from any other software on your computer - the app is maintained, new features are added so don't tell me that ASG let the app die!?!

In my case this happens on a fresh install of Windows 10 1709.

The chances of any corruption are close to 0.

Do you have any video recording software installed (perhaps running in background)? I can open a Microsoft support case - if we could reproduce it would be easier - else I think do we need to run debug tools on any of your clients to get a dump from windows - that could be analyzed afterwards...

Could you please try to stop the process "msmpeg2vdec.dll" - in Task Explorer, Processes - just stop it and see if that makes a difference

Turns out Chrome and Discord were using it.  Different versions for each.  I'll test later tonight to see if that helps.

For me Chrome and Slack (similar to Discord) use that DLL for video/gif/html5 playback. ASG Remote Desktop doesn't appear to like that. No other apps crash. The DLL is not corrupted.

What does ASG use this DLL for?

This Dll is not referenced - so I don't know why it is crashing - my specialist from Microsoft for theses cases is on vacation - I will contact him when he is back...

We have a Microsoft CASE for that problem - as we can not reproduce that issue we need somebody who generate a dump for this problem - here are the steps to to to create dump file that could be analyzed

1. Create a new folder in C: drive and name that as Dumps
2. Open Registry editor (Please take a backup of Registry before making any modifications)
3. Open path HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps (create the LocalDumps key if it does not exist.)
4. Under the newly created LocalDumps key, create the following values
a. Value name: DumpFolder / REG_EXPAND_SZ / Set the value as C:\Dumps
b. Value name: DumpCount / REG_DWORD / Set the value to 5
c. Value name: DumpType / REG_DWORD / set DumpType = 2

If the error occurs again, windows will write a memory dump of the faulting process that we will need

Hi there - anybody still gets the error on "msmpeg2vdec.dll" - would really like to analyze - MS support is asking for dump files to continue...
