Can not get past Enviroment Creation Wizard
#1
When I try to create an environment via local file It appears to finish correctly but vision app will not connect and the active environment says none.If i click on the newly created environment vision app prompts me if I am sure and that it will need to close and restart which it does but it still does not load an environment. Please let me know what additional info you need to help troubleshoot this issue.

I have tried, uninstalling, reinstalling, deleting all vision app data including registry, check my FIPS registry key it is disabled.

It appears as if some of this thread was deleted.

Devorama asked the following:

In your app data dir (%UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\visionapp\vRD 2011) there should be 2 files - vRD.config and profile.xml

After you create an environment there should be at least one setting in the vRD.config file - with the name and path you specified

In the profile.xml there should be some more values - one of it is named "CurrentConnection" - this tag should have the name of the specified environment in it - you can easily read the file using XML Notepad

Can you please check this?...

To which I replied: The Current does have the name of the specified environment

Sorry, we had a crash of the sql database where the forum is hosted and had to restore a backup (2 days old)

Do you have any application event log entries? Sorry, if I asked you the question again.

Can you try to create a settings file usign a different folder like c:\temp\Settings.xml - same result?

Hello,

Its okay and completely understandable.

There are not application event log entries and creating settings in a different folder has the same result.

Did you use any special characters in the environment name?

One thing you can try - there are some command line parameters - so you can specify to open a settings file directly - please call ASGRD72.exe /? for more info

First try to open with /instance:*env-name*
Then with /settingsfile:*file location of settings.xml*

Any other results???

It returns an error box as follows

"Error
An error occurred while creating the desktop
Value cannot be null.
Parameter name: stream"

there is an okay button that has no result.

Very difficult :-)

Did you set your path to the file in "*path*" - because if there are any whitespaces it will be interpreted as more than 1 argument

Tried again same error.

The commands I used were

vdr70.exe /instance:Standard

vdr70.exe /settingsfile:"C:\Users\******\AppData\Roaming\visionapp\vRD 2011\settings.xml"

Correct

Could you try to install a newer version and try to reproduce?

And when does the problem occur? After installing on a new PC? After windows updates? after ...?

We are only licensed for 2011 so another version would not help us very much at all, unless you can upgrade our License at no cost Wink

That said if you can link me to which even installer you would like me to try I am game.

It occurred installing on a new PC in a virtual environment.

I uninstalled 2011, installed the linked version and went through the process for creating a new environment got to the end hit finish and the application just flashed and did not start.

I tried via the command line and same results as the previous command line commands.

Edit: Just wanted to add that I appreciate you taking the time to help with this issue.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

It will not let me click finish if I click continue.

If I try to create a file environment with any other protection mode the application crashes with no error popup

Ok - thanks - the crash I will check :-)

But the error message when setting a password is the FIPS compliance problem - so that will be the problem of vRD 2012 too

Search the forum for FIPS - there are different solutions you can try... (I never had this problem and I don't know when and why this settings is ON on some new systems)
