Connecting 2015 to my 2012 SQL db

I assumed I would be able to connect to my existing SQL database but that doesn't seem to be the case. Is there an upgrade process I need to do on the database before I can connect with 2015?

I installed 2015 p4 and connected to my db, the test connection was successful. But when I try to connect I get "Connection could not be established" the product will use now the cached data...

You need to create a new database environment (create new database) - then you can use "File?>Upgrade from 2012" - select your old database and continue the wizard - all your data will be imported to the new database
